Eubank Jr defeats Abraham next stop “World Boxing Super Series”, Selby Retains his title

At the Wembley Arena in London, on a Poxon Sports promoted card Chris Eubank Jr made the first defense of his IBO super middleweight title won this past February after stopping Renold Quinlan in ten rounds. His opponent former two division world champion Arthur Abraham, entered on a two fight win streak since losing his WBO World super middleweight title to Gilberto Ramirez in April of 2016. What was more important for both fighters than the “Alphabet” trinket, is winner of this contest would enter the coveted “World Boxing Super Series” beginning this fall.

It was a workman like performance for Eubank Jr, at times he looked very average wondering why Abraham would not be deterred by his attack, of course Abraham has never been a fighter who could be deterred. This was a case of Arthur Abraham, not letting his hands go enough to score points while Eubank Jr looked for openings that could possibly end the affair. The official scores read 118-110, 118-110 and 120-108 all for Eubank Jr who is headed for the “World Boxing Super Series” where he will face undefeated Avni Yildirim. Chris Eubank Jr now stands at 25-1 (19), Arthur Abraham 46-6 (30).

In the co-feature, Lee Selby retained his IBF featherweight title with a dominate performance over rugged veteran Jonathan Victor Barros. While Barrios put in a solid effort he was out boxed by Lee Selby and dropped in the twelfth moments before the contest ended. The final scores read 119-108 and 117-110 twice all in favor of the champion Lee Selby who improved to 25-1 (9) Jonathan Victor Barros now stands at 41-5-1 (22).

The ever improving Kid Galahad,  scored the biggest win of his career when he stopped Jose Cayetano in the tenth round claiming the vacant IBF Inter-Continental featherweight title for his efforts. This win should put him in position to have a domestic showdown and title opportunity against  IBF champion  Lee Selby. With the win Galahad improved to 23-0 (14), Jose Cayetano now stands at 21-6 (10).

In undercard action-

Super Featherweight- Martin Joseph Ward improved to 18-0-2 (8) after he scored a twelve round unanimous decision win over Anthony Cacace 15-1 (7). That contest was for the BBBofC British and vacant Commonwealth (British Empire)  super featherweight title.

Super Lightweight- Michal Syrowatka 19-1 (7) def. Robbie Davies Jnr 15-1 (11) via TKO 12
Michal Syrowatka was down in 9th and Robbie Davies the 12th.

Middleweight- Patrick Wojcicki 9-0 (4) def.Darryl Sharp 5-18 via UD 6.

Welterweight- Chris Kongo 5-0 (3)  def. William Warburton 23-118-9 (4) via UD 4.
What impresses me personally, despite 118 losses Warburton has only been stopped twice, he is a true throwback “Tradesman” fighter. While he will never be a world champion, he will always find fights, win or lose get through them while taking minimal punishment while helping his younger opponents improve their overall skillset in an actual fight setting. He is better than his record indicates.

Light Heavyweight- Joel McIntyre 16-1 (3)  def. Remigijus Ziausys 20-78-5 via UD 4

Super Lightweight- Nathanael Wilson 4-0-1 (2) def. Yaddollah Ghasemi 1-10-1 (1) via TKO 2
